Rubis Channel Islands launches the first renewable petrol in the Channel Islands

Rubis Channel Islands is proud to announce the launch of SUSTAIN 80 by Coryton, the first renewable petrol available in the Channel Islands, making Jersey the first jurisdiction in the British Isles to offer this sustainable fuel from an underground tanked forecourt.

Initially made available exclusively to competitors of the Jersey International Motoring Festival (JIMF) on Monday 2 June 2025, SUSTAIN 80 is now available to the public from Monday 9 June 2025 at Rubis First Tower Forecourt in St Helier.

SUSTAIN 80 is an advanced second-generation biofuel, containing 80% renewable content and 20% fossil fuel to ensure optimal engine performance. It is produced using agricultural waste, including straw and non-consumable crop by-products, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% compared to conventional petrol.

With an octane rating of over 98 and bio-ethanol content below 1%, this premium-grade renewable petrol has been specially formulated for classic and performance vehicles. However, it is fully compatible with all petrol-powered vehicles. As a drop-in fuel, it can be safely mixed with standard unleaded petrol already in your tank, no engine modifications required.

As part of our commitment to sustainable fuel innovation, Rubis Channel Islands is actively exploring the introduction of a renewable petrol blend for everyday use. To ensure the right balance between bio content, ethanol levels, octane performance, and affordability, we will be conducting market research to understand customer preferences across the islands.

Rubis Channel Islands remains a trusted and reliable fuel distributor, leading the way in introducing cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions. The launch of SUSTAIN 80 is a major step forward in our mission to support a greener future for the Channel Islands, delivering fuel that’s better for people, vehicles, and the planet.

At the moment everyone is talking about electric vehicles and, of course, they are one option as part of the mix of opportunities to cut carbon emissions. But they are expensive to buy, not in plentiful supply and may not be the best long-term solution, because of the environmental and financial cost of building, replacing and recycling the batteries and the amount of new infrastructure that has to be invested in to encourage mass adoption.

The amount of carbon emissions related to car manufacturing and recycling is significant, sometimes even more for long range EVs and its batteries; keeping your existing car avoids it.
